Obituary

George Cotter, known to friends and loved ones as "Georgie", passed away on May 30th, 2018, at the age of 83
in his place of residence, The Greenfields of Geneva.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Helen, sister, Nancy, daughters, Lisa and Debbie, sons, Johnny,
Chris and Kevin, 8 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A native of Salem, Massachusetts, George enlisted in the US Navy on January 13th, 1953 and was honorably discharged on December 21st, 1956. He proudly served sea duty during the time in the Navy aboard the USS Haynsworth.

George began his life as a railroader on September 16th, 1959 and retired from CN Railway on January 1st, 1995. He was also an avid New England sports fan, cheering year after year for the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. He was even able to maintain those loyalties while living for over a decade in Pittsburgh, PA, the home of rabid fans of the Championship Steelers, Pirates and Penguins, including his Pittsburgh family.

After his retirement from CN, George and Helen moved to Calabash, North Carolina where they enjoyed the warm climate, the golf and many lovely friends they made at Brunswick Plantation.

George had a warm and outgoing personality. He had the ability to light up a room with his laugh and make people smile by just being around him. He "never met a stranger" as the saying goes.

A Celebration of George’s life will be held at 3:30pm, on Sunday, June 3rd, at the Greenfields of Geneva, 0N801 Friendship Way, Geneva, Il. Services will begin promptly at 3:30pm with an open reception following the ceremony until 5pm.

In lieu of flowers, if you’d like to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in George or Helen’s name, you can do so by following this link.
