Chief Petty Officer Fredrick L. Mettler, USN (Retired), 86, of West Hanover Twp., died Thursday, October 27, 2016 in the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg.

He was a retired Chief Petty Officer with the United States Navy with 20 years of service, serving in the European Theatre and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was also a retired Plant Engineer at Specialty Bakers in Marysville, a graduate of Steelton High School Class of 1949, and a member of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lower Paxton Twp.

Fred was the son of the late George Mettler, Sr. and Rose Schaffer Mettler and is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Theresa J. Spanitz Mettler; one daughter, Theresa Rose Cave and her husband, David L. Cave, Jr. of Marysville; two grandchildren, Stefan J. Cave and Shannon M. Cave; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Mettler, Jr. and one sister, Josephine Sinkovitz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 12 Noon in Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lower Paxton Twp. with Very Rev. Edward J. Quinlan, his Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. A viewing will be held on Monday from 11:00 am until 12 Noon in his church.. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home, Steelton.
