Heavy rain did not hinder the ceremonial launching of the USS Haynsworth at the Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company at Kearney, N.J., April 15, 1944.

In honor of the Late Commander William McCall Haynsworth, Jr., the christening was performed by his widow, Mrs. Haynsworth of 1015 L. St., N.W., Washington, D.C.

Commander Haynsworth was lost Augst 23, 1943, when the destroyer Ingraham, which he commanded, sank following a collision in the North Alantic While on Convoy Duty.
